The Dark Knight

This sounds odd, I know, but my jaw hurts.

Possibly because for the last two-and-a-half hours it’s been on the floor. All thanks to the new Batman movie.

So yeah, it’s totally recommended. In fact, get your tickets now if you haven’t yet, because the blockbuster of this summer has arrived. From the opening scene, this is an intense, thought-provoking thrill ride of a movie. I’m not kidding when I say that I spent half the movie with my jaw on the floor, and normally I’m not that kind of movie person.

Everyone who’s seen the movie so far talks about how wonderful Heath Ledger’s joker is, and I have to say first-hand that the Oscar-buzz is accurate. His performance as the Joker was amazingly spooky, and really hit home that the Joker is an all-out, nothing to lose, insane anarchistic guy who lives off chaos.

And what chaos. The plot takes twists and turns all throughout, fast-paced and exciting, gutwrenching and heartbreaking (and sometimes gruesome). It does all this smoothly; nothing felt out-of-place or forced.

Aside from Ledger, the whole cast was brilliantly cast and performed flawlessly. Between Gary Oldman’s role as the only good cop in Gotham City and Aaron Eckhart’s brilliant, heartbreaking role as Harvey Dent… I don’t know who I liked more. The supporting cast (Michael Cane, Morgan Freeman) were also amazing.

There’s not a lot of bad I can say about this movie. In fact, there’s only one thing… whoever did the makeup for the Mayor should be shot. Seriously, he was wearing more mascara than a drag-queen, and it really took some of the impact out of the ‘oh so serious’ scenes he was in.

Aside from that, go see Dark Knight on Friday. You will love it.

The only thing which I like in this movie is Joker, that’s it, that’s the only thing that would make my jaw hit the ground…Aside from that, things which make that movie suck are:

    1) Batman’s silly hyper-low-growl-like voice, this was a total LOL in my opinion

    2) Daylight, daylight, daylight

    3) Stupid looking Two-face, that was just too much, actually I would like to see more Joker instead of this Two-face guy, total failure, however 1k times better then Tommy Lee-Jones

    4) Have I mentioned batman’s voice?

…oh well, at least that’s my opinion,

    Cheers!

Ok, I know the voice thing sucked. My girlness over Christian Bale couldn’t even let me overlook it, but maybe that’s just a character flaw with Bruce Wayne – he talks like a kid playing dress-up.

Also, yeah – no burn victim would look like Two-Face, let alone be taking shots of alcohol… but it’s a movie based off a comic-book. If we can’t blur the lines of reality a little here, where can we? I loved Harvey Dent, I believed in Harvey Dent, and although his makeup was a bit to the extreme limits of my imagination, I was too occupied with staring at the inside of his jawbone to notice.

Think of all the good this movie had:

    - So many twisted moments! I know this mostly ties in with the Joker, but the twistendness of the movie – the pencil trick, the helicopter cable trap, the ‘not high enough to kill me’ mafia drop, the cell-phone surgery (need I go on?)… this movie made me cringe time and time again, even after seeing the movie again (and again). Not a lot of movies do that.

    - The plot was solid – Batman’s not a glamorous hero, I liked the comparisons of the Roman guards and how protecting the people was a service, how sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the good of the whole.

    - Joker, joker, joker. Everything he did was brilliant. C’mon, the nurses outfit with the explosions? All while he’s just cold and calculated, shooting random people point-blank, for no reason other than it’s apparently fun to him. I really want to know how he got those scars.

This could go on for another post and a half, but I think you get my drift. It’s all relative, really, but I have yet to see a better movie this year.

By the way, the makeup on the major is not actually makeup, that’s what the guy looks like (see http://tinyurl.com/6rvcvb )
